Australia have become the first team to reach the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, continuing their dominance in the tournament. The defending champions achieved progression after a commanding performance against Bangladesh in Match 17, held at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
Chasing a modest 199-run target, Australia completed the task with ease, winning by 10 wickets. Skipper Alyssa Healy smashed an unbeaten 113 off 77 balls, while opener Phoebe Litchfield made a strong statement with 84 not out. Healy’s back-to-back centuries in the tournament underline her world-class form and leadership at the top of the order. The win also reclaimed Australia’s top spot on the points table and reinforced their status as strong favorites for the title.
Women’s World Cup 2025: Bangladesh’s struggle and key performances
Batting first, Bangladesh got off to a steady start with a 32-run opening partnership between Rubya Haider Jhelik and Fargana Hoque Pinky. Megan Schutt broke the stand, dismissing Pinky for 8 off 24 balls, while Jhelik survived an early slip chance dropped by Litchfield, eventually scoring 44 off 59 balls with eight fours before falling to Ashleigh Gardner.
Gardner soon claimed the wicket of Sharmin Akter Supta (19 off 33). Alana King removed Nigar Sultana Joty for 12, continuing the batter’s struggles in the tournament. Shorna Akter, who recently notched the fastest fifty for Bangladesh, managed only 7 off 24 balls. However, Sobhana Mostary anchored the innings beautifully, scoring her second fifty of the tournament with 66 not out off 80 balls, including nine fours, to guide Bangladesh to 198/9. Australia shared wickets among Gardner, Annabel Sutherland, Alana and Georgia Wareham, with each of the latter three taking two apiece. Despite Mostary’s heroics, Bangladesh fell short, leaving them in seventh place and in a must-win position for the remaining matches.
Women’s World Cup 2025: Australia’s dominant run-chase by Alyssa Healy and Phoebe Litchfield
The Australian run-chase was a masterclass in batting, completed in just 24.5 overs with ease. Healy and Litchfield began cautiously, scoring 17 runs in the first four overs, before accelerating decisively. Their partnership of 150 runs came up in 20.5 overs, and the pair also set the fastest team 100 of the tournament in 13.5 overs. Healy reached her fifty in 43 balls and went on to score an unbeaten 113 off 77 balls, striking 20 fours, while Litchfield contributed 84 off 72 balls.
The pair’s aggressive strokeplay left Bangladesh’s bowlers struggling, particularly Fariha Trisna (47 runs in 5.5 overs) and leg-spinner Fahima Khatun, who conceded at an economy of 12. The dominant win not only extended Australia’s unbeaten run against Bangladesh to 5-0 in WODIs but also ensured their progression to the semi-finals and reaffirmed their credentials as favorites for the title.

To absolutely no one's surprise, Australia become the first team to confirm their place in the semifinals.
An absolute demolition job of what had, till tonight, been one of the best bowling sides in the tournament.

This Australian side is just gold dust.
For someone who's never been to Oz, how is the cricketing culture so different to here in the UK? How are they so clinical and disciplined? Is this engrained from a young age? #AUSvBAN #WomensWorldCup2025 #AlyssaHealy
