India wrapped up a dominant performance at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, defeating West Indies by seven wickets to complete a comprehensive 2-0 whitewash in the Test series. The second Test, which concluded on Tuesday, witnessed a composed unbeaten fifty from KL Rahul that sealed the deal for the hosts and had fans at the venue roaring with delight.
KL Rahul’s classy fifty guides India home
Resuming the final day at 63/1 while chasing a modest target of 121, the home side required only 58 more runs to secure victory. Rahul, who began the day on 25, displayed absolute composure, bringing up a fluent half-century off 102 balls, punctuated with four boundaries and two sixes. His elegant shot-making and controlled aggression ensured India crossed the line with ease despite losing skipper Shubman Gill for 13, caught off Roston Chase‘s bowling. Dhruv Jurel then joined Rahul to finish the chase at 124/3 in 35.2 overs.
Sai Sudharsan also played a vital supporting role with his 39 off 76 balls, featuring five stylish fours, while Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s early dismissal for eight proved inconsequential. Rahul’s calmness stood out as he paced his innings perfectly, guiding India home and triggering thunderous applause from the Delhi crowd. His return to form after a lean patch was celebrated widely on social media, with fans praising his temperament under pressure and fluency against both spin and pace.
India complete series whitewash against West Indies
The hosts dominated from the first day itself after declaring their first innings at a mammoth 518/5, built around centuries from Jaiswal (175) and Gill (129*), with Sudharsan contributing a solid 87. West Indies, in response, managed only 248 runs in their first innings, undone by Kuldeep Yadav’s five-wicket haul and Ravindra Jadeja’s craft from the other end. Enforcing the follow-on, India’s bowlers had to sweat on a docile surface as West Indies showed fight through John Campbell and Shai Hope.
Campbell struck a patient 115, while Hope ended his eight-year wait for a Test century with 103, guiding the visitors to 390 in the second innings. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s incisive burst (3/44) and Kuldeep’s persistence (3/104) eventually halted the resistance despite a late 79-run last-wicket partnership between Justin Greaves (50*) and Jayden Seales (32).
Needing 121 for victory, India’s chase reflected a measured approach rather than aggression. The hosts ensured no last-minute drama on the final morning, sealing the Test and the series in style. The victory marked India’s tenth consecutive Test series win over West Indies, a streak dating back to 2003.
Kuldeep was adjudged Player of the Match for his impactful Fifer and breakthroughs in the second innings, while Jadeja’s all round brilliance in both Tests earned him the Player of the Series title.
