1. FG Removes Maths As Compulsory Requirement For Arts, Humanities Admissions

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced that senior secondary school students in the arts and humanities will no longer be required to obtain a credit pass in Mathematics in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) before gaining admission to Nigerian universities and polytechnics.

For years, admission seekers across all disciplines, sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities were mandated to secure at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, to qualify for admission into higher institutions.

According to a statement on Tuesday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, the new policy is contained in the revised National Guidelines for Entry Requirements into Nigerian Tertiary Institutions, aimed at “removing barriers while maintaining academic standards.”

The new framework applies to universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and Innovation Enterprise Academies nationwide.

2. Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah Joins APC

The Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, on Tuesday, formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement took place at the Enugu State Government House and had in attendance several leaders and stalwarts of the APC at the national and state levels.

Naija News reports that Mbah is the latest major politician and Governor to defect to the APC ahead of the 2027 election.

He was immediately presented with his membership card at the venue.

Speaking at the event, Governor Mbah said he defected because of the need to align Enugu State with the centre and strengthen the potential of the state.

He noted that leaving PDP was a difficult but necessary decision and urged the people of the state to continue to support him.

3. APC Pushing Nigeria Towards One-Party State – Wabara Alleges

Former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating the wave of defections rocking opposition parties in the country.

Wabara, who spoke against the backdrop of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah’s defection to the APC and reported plans by Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri to follow suit, said the development confirmed his earlier warning that the APC was pursuing a one-party state agenda.

He stated, “I saw this coming. I raised the alarm, but was ignored. This is not the democracy that we jealously nurtured and guarded. This is a corrupted version of democracy.”

The PDP BoT chairman alleged that the APC was “stifling democracy” through intimidation of opposition voices.

Wabara described the defections as coerced, blaming the APC’s refusal to implement electoral reforms that would guarantee credible elections.

4. Don’t Move 2027 Election To 2026 – ADC Cautions National Assembly

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned the National Assembly against its proposed amendments that may move the 2027 general elections to November 2026.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party warned that such movement could undermine governance in the country.

It argued that advancing the election date would push Nigeria into a perpetual campaign cycle, shorten the effective period for governance, disrupt development planning, and further weaken institutional focus.

The ADC urged lawmakers to abandon the idea and instead pursue genuine electoral and judicial reforms that ensure credible elections and timely resolution of disputes without undermining governance stability.

The ADC stated that while the intent is to provide more time for the resolution of election petitions before the inauguration of a new administration, it believes that this amendment risks creating deeper problems for Nigeria’s democracy than it seeks to solve.

5. Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation Of Amupitan As INEC Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to screen and confirm Professor Joash Amupitan (SAN) as the new National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The request was contained in a letter read on Tuesday by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during plenary.

Naija News reports that Tinubu urged the Senate to give “expeditious consideration and approval” to the nomination, which has now been referred to the committee of the whole for legislative action.

Recall that Amupitan was approved as the new chair by the National Council of State last Thursday.

President Tinubu suggested Amupitan for the council after former INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, stepped aside and handed over to May Agbamuche-Mbu in an acting capacity.

Amupitan, if approved by the Senate, would take over from Agbamuche-Mbu, who is currently leading the affairs of the electoral commission.

6. “I Am Happy”- Father Of Murdered Bilyaminu Bello Appreciates Presidential Pardon For Maryam Sanda

The father of the late Bilyaminu Bello, Alhaji Ahmed Bello Isa, has expressed delight with the decision of President Bola Tinubu to grant a pardon to Maryam Sanda over the killing of his son.

Isa, in a press conference on Tuesday, disclosed that he had totally forgiven Sanda even before the court sentenced her to jail over the death of her husband.

The father added that Sanda’s freedom would give her the opportunity to take care of her two children.

He added that he has accepted all that happened as the will of God, noting that whatever punitive measure inflicted against her daughter-in-law would not bring back his own son, but forgiveness can bring peace.

On the earlier position of the family, which was contained in a statement signed by Dr Bello Mohammed on behalf of other relatives, in which they described the presidential pardon for Sanda as “the worst possible injustice any family could be made to go through,” Isa said the statement did not represent his personal views.

He stressed that he has embraced forgiveness and believes that’s the right thing to do.

7. Nigeria Is The Best Place To Raise My Kids – MI Abaga

Nigerian rapper M.I. Abaga has revealed that he plans to raise his future children in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the music executive described the country as the best place to nurture them because of its strong sense of community and family connection.

Speaking as a guest on a show, Japa Diaries, the award-winning rapper said, “I want to raise my kids in Nigeria. There’s something about the sense of community here that makes parenting special.”

He explained that Nigerian children grow up in a supportive environment where relatives, neighbours, and friends all play a part in raising them.

According to him, “In Nigeria, children grow up surrounded by family, neighbours, and friends who all look out for each other. That’s a kind of love money can’t buy.”

M.I. compared Nigeria’s communal lifestyle to that of the United States, where he said parents often live individualistic lives due to work demands.

8. Why I Support Polygamy – Alibaba

Veteran Nigerian comedian, Alibaba, has claimed that polygamy can stabilise families.

According to him, the practice of polygamy will ensure a marriage lasts longer because the presence of competition would make the wife more reasonable.

Speaking in an interview with Nedu, he stated that some men feel they might struggle to control their wives if they have no competition.

He said: “Some people feel if it’s only one wife, you may not be able to control the wife. But if the wife knows that you have more than one, she will calm down. She will calm down because she knows that if she misbehaves, another person is available”.

Drawing from historical practices, Alibaba cited examples from Ibadan where women encouraged their husbands to marry additional wives to prevent infidelity and maintain family unity.

9. Super Eagles Of Nigeria Lose Automatic 2026 FIFA World Cup Ticket To South Africa Despite Osimhen’s Hat-trick

The Super Eagles of Nigeria ran riot in Uyo with a 4-0 thrashing of the Benin Republic, but Victor Osimhen’s dazzling hat-trick could not save them from losing the Group C automatic qualification ticket to South Africa in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers.

Despite the emphatic win at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, South Africa sealed top spot in Group C after a commanding 3-0 victory over Rwanda in Johannesburg. The result means Nigeria finished second with 17 points, just one behind the Bafana Bafana, who amassed 18 points to clinch the group’s only automatic World Cup slot.

Osimhen gave Nigeria a dream start in the third minute after a clever assist from Samuel Chukwueze. The Galatasaray striker doubled the lead in the 37th minute, again connecting beautifully with another Chukwueze delivery inside the box. He completed his hat-trick six minutes into the second half, pouncing on a defensive lapse to make it 3-0.

Frank Onyeka added a late fourth goal in added time to wrap up what looked like a perfect night for the Super Eagles.

However, the joy in Uyo was cut short as news filtered in that South Africa had maintained their lead against Rwanda, ending Nigeria’s hopes of automatic qualification.

10. England’s Coach Tuchel Sends Warning To Marcus Rashford

England manager Thomas Tuchel has told Marcus Rashford that his talent has “no limits,” but cautioned the Barcelona forward not to look back on his career with regrets.

Marcus Rashford, on loan from Manchester United, has found form again in Spain, scoring three times and providing five assists in ten appearances for Barcelona.

The 27-year-old’s strong start in La Liga has revived his confidence after a difficult spell at Old Trafford and a mixed few seasons in England.

Tuchel, who recalled Rashford to the national team seven months ago after more than a year out, spoke about the player’s growth and what he needs to do to reach the top.
