Two women pretending to be rideshare drivers robbed a tourist at gunpoint in the Gold Coast early Sunday after convincing him they were his ride, according to Chicago police.

The 44-year-old man told officers he was waiting for a rideshare pickup in the 1000 block of North State Street around 1:45 a.m. when a Toyota SUV with two women pulled up and claimed to be his driver. He got into the back seat, and one of the women pulled out a gun and demanded his belongings, police said.

The victim handed over his wallet, watch, and credit cards before the offenders ordered him out of the SUV near LaSalle Drive and Ontario Street. They drove off in an unknown direction.

The man flagged down a city tow truck operator, who radioed for police assistance. No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
