DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
Sometimes, individuals find themselves in difficult situations where all hope seems lost. David, for one, found himself in this situation many times. He was not an ordinary man. He was a warrior, the toast of Israel after his epic battle with Goliath. As a king, he had political power, authority and economic assets that he could deploy to solve his problems. Yet he soon realised that those resources could not help his situation. Hence, his earnest prayer to God to hear his supplication.
If David saw the need to cry to God for help, why not you and me? In most cases, those who are in trouble or face great difficulties put their trust in money, political godfathers, or prominent members of their families or friends. Not surprisingly, many have been rewarded with failure and disappointment. As the Bible declare in Psalm 60:11, “vain is the help of man”. The only safety route is to cry to God.
Crying to the Lord is an admission of our helplessness and complete dependence on God. It involves praying with fervency to attract the attention of God. It does not require any particular posture while praying, but the heart must be fixed on God, who alone can do more than we can ever ask or imagine. God Himself has invited us to call upon Him in the day of trouble and that He will deliver us. The fulfilment of this promise in the lives of many individuals in the Bible should encourage us.
The children of Israel cried to God, and He parted the Red Sea so they could cross into Canaan. Elijah cried to God, and a dead child was revived. Jehoshaphat was delivered from untimely death on the battlefield when he cried out to the Lord. Faced with a stormy sea, the disciples of Christ cried to Him, and He calmed the wind. There are many other benefits we can receive from crying to God. These include divine guidance and spiritual strength. David said, “I will cry unto God, most high; unto God that performeth all things for me” (Psalm 57:2).
