A member of the House of Representatives, Sadiq Abdullahi, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal wrangling within the party.
Naija News reports that Abdullahi, who represents Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, announced his resignation in a letter dated October 13 and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Hawa Ward, Sabon Gari Local Government Area.
In the letter, the lawmaker lamented that the prolonged crisis within the PDP was affecting his ability to discharge his mandate effectively.
“The persistent internal conflicts and factionalisation within the PDP, which have culminated in a prolonged party crisis, are adversely affecting my ability to effectively represent my constituency and perform my duties optimally,” the letter read.
He explained that the decision was taken after wide consultations with stakeholders and political associates.
“This decision is driven by my commitment to continue serving the people of Sabon Gari Federal Constituency beyond partisan lines, ensuring that all constituents benefit from purposeful, inclusive, and effective representation,” Abdullahi added.
The lawmaker, however, expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform it provided him.
“I wish to sincerely thank the PDP for the privilege and opportunity to serve under its platform. The support, trust, and experiences I have gained during my time with the party have been invaluable, and I remain deeply grateful to the leadership and members at all levels,” he said.
Abdullahi, who is the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), is the son of Ango Abdullahi, convener of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF).
He won the PDP ticket for the House of Representatives while in captivity in May 2022. The lawmaker was among the passengers abducted during the March 2022 attack on a Kaduna-bound train and was released after about four months in captivity.
