1. FG Enforces No-Work-No-Pay On ASUU

The Federal Government has ordered vice-chancellors of federal universities to immediately enforce the “no work, no pay” policy against members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) participating in the ongoing nationwide strike.

Naija News reports that the directive was contained in a circular dated October 13, 2025, and signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.

The document was copied to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Permanent Secretary of Education, Pro-Chancellors of federal universities, the Director-General of the Budget Office, the Accountant-General of the Federation, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

According to the circular, the ministry expressed dissatisfaction with reports of continued industrial action by ASUU despite repeated calls for dialogue.

The minister directed vice-chancellors to conduct a physical headcount and roll call of all academic staff, and to submit a detailed report identifying those who are present and working, and those absent or participating in the strike.

He also ordered that the salaries of staff who fail to perform their duties during the strike period should be withheld.

2. “It Will Usually Get Worse Before It Gets Better” – Makinde Reacts To Governors Defecting From PDP

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to despair over the recent gale of defections that have hit the party.

Makinde submitted that despite the defections, the PDP still has members in every ward of Nigeria, adding that the party remains relevant.

Speaking on Monday during the inauguration of the PDP National Convention Transportation Sub-committee in Abuja, Makinde acknowledged that the PDP is currently facing some challenges, but the party would emerge stronger and better.

Naija News reports that the PDP has been hit with a wave of defections, with Governors and prominent leaders leaving the party.

Recent reports indicate that Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah, and his Bayelsa State counterpart, Douye Diri, are set to dump the PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to the defections, the Oyo State Governor called on all remaining PDP members to play their part and work for the party’s victory in the 2027 elections.

3. Petrol Price Hits ₦992 Per Litre At NNPC Stations

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has again raised the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, to ₦992 per litre from ₦865.

As of Monday, no official reason had been given for the sudden increment.

Across several NNPC retail outlets visited by The Nation, attendants were seen adjusting their pumps to reflect the new rate.

At the NNPC station on Ogunusi Road, Ojodu Berger, Lagos, petrol attendants confirmed they had been instructed to change the price to ₦992 per litre.

However, checks at Ibafo, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, showed that NNPC outlets there still displayed the old price of ₦875 per litre, but were not dispensing fuel to commuters.

Many other NNPC stations were also not selling petrol as of the time of filing this report, worsening concerns over availability.

4. National Assembly Proposes November 2026 For Presidential, Governorship Elections

The National Assembly, ahead of the 2027 general elections, has proposed shifting the dates of the presidential and governorship polls from the usual February or March to November 2026.

Naija News reports that the proposal is contained in draft amendments to the 2022 Electoral Act, which currently stipulates that elections into both offices must be held not later than 185 days before the expiration of the incumbent’s tenure on May 29.

The proposals came to the fore on Monday at a one-day public hearing organised by the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on Electoral Matters.

According to the draft, Section 4 (7) now provides that “elections into the office of the president and governor of a state shall be held not later than 185 days before the expiration of the term of office of the last holder of the office.”

By calculation, 185 days before May 29, 2027, falls in November 2026, since the period from May 28, 2027, back to December 1, 2026, amounts to 180 days.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Electoral Matters, Adebayo Balogun, explained that the intent of the proposal was to ensure sufficient time for courts to resolve all election-related cases before new leaders are sworn in.

5. FG Makes Move Amidst Increase In Price Of Cooking Gas

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has directed regulatory authorities to clamp down on marketers hoarding Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas, amid the recent surge in prices across the country.

In a statement signed by his spokesman, Louis Ibah, on Monday, Ekpo described the actions of some marketers as exploitative and warned that the government would not allow Nigerians to be subjected to undue hardship.

The price of cooking gas has risen in recent weeks from an average of ₦1,000 per kilogram to as high as ₦2,000/kg in some parts of the country.

The hike followed the strike action by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) during its face-off with the Dangote refinery, as well as ongoing maintenance activities at the Nigeria LNG Train 4 facility.

Although the strike was suspended almost two weeks ago, prices have remained high, while scarcity persists.

Explaining the causes of the scarcity, Ekpo said, “The strike by PENGASSAN at the Dangote refinery temporarily halted LPG loading, while the maintenance work at NLNG reduced the volume of gas available in the domestic market.”

He noted that these disruptions created a supply shortfall, which triggered the sharp rise in prices.

The minister, however, assured Nigerians that supply was already improving.

6. 2027: No Discussion Or Pact With Jonathan To Unseat Tinubu – Peter Obi

The Labour Party (LP)’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed speculation of a political alliance with former President, Goodluck Jonathan, to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Naija News reports that the clarification follows the growing political tension sparked by a recent closed-door meeting between Peter Obi and Jonathan in Abuja, which triggered rumours of an opposition realignment.

Supporters of both politicians have engaged in heated debates on social media, urging either Peter Obi or Jonathan to step aside for the other in what many perceive as a test of opposition unity.

However, speaking through his media aide and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, in an interview with The PUNCH, Peter Obi said there is no pact or discussion about 2027.

7. Sunday Oliseh Accuses NFF Of Pocketing $1 Million FIFA Bonus From 2002 World Cup

Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, has alleged that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) withheld a $1 million payment from FIFA meant to reward the national team for qualifying for the 2002 World Cup.

Speaking on the Home Turf podcast, Oliseh claimed there was a clear agreement to divide the money equally between the federation and the players.

However, he said the NFF failed to honour the arrangement after disbanding the team shortly before the tournament in Japan and South Korea.

He explained that the players’ half, amounting to $500,000, was supposed to be shared among the 30 players who participated in the qualification campaign, translating to roughly $18,000 each.

Oliseh alleged that after Nigeria booked their ticket to the World Cup, the federation dissolved the squad that achieved the feat and replaced most of the players before the tournament.

8. Gernot Rohr Reveals Benin Republic’s Game Plan Ahead Of Clash With Super Eagles

Benin Republic coach, Gernot Rohr, says his team will stay calm and focused when they take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Rohr, who previously managed Nigeria, is no stranger to the city. He led the Super Eagles to several victories at the same ground during his time in charge. Now returning as the opponent, the Franco-German coach admits the atmosphere could be intense but insists his players are prepared for it.

Benin currently sit top of Group C with 17 points, ahead of South Africa on 15 and Nigeria on 14. A draw in Uyo would be enough to keep the Cheetahs in control of their qualification race.

The team arrived in Uyo on Saturday after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Rwanda on Friday. Rohr has built his side around discipline, patience, and quick transitions, a style that has brought impressive results in recent months.

9. ‘Christian Community Criticize Me For Performing In Churches’ – Johnny Drille

Nigerian singer cum songwriter, Johnny Drille, has addressed the criticism often received from some members of the Christian community for performing in churches.

Naija News reports that the Mavin Records artist, in a recent episode of the CreativiTEA podcast, said his music has grown beyond traditional Christian boundaries.

He explained that although his songs are not strictly gospel, they promote positivity and meaningful values.

According to Johnny Drille, while his faith in God remains strong, he has never felt that his music entirely fits within the structure of church ministry.

The singer further argued that the church often neglects conversations about love, a subject theme he believes is both important and spiritual.

10. ‘He Is A Nigerian In The Music Industry’ – Seyi Shay Opens Up About Baby Daddy

Naija News recalls that Seyi Shay welcomed her first child, a baby girl, in 2022, barely a year after revealing she was engaged but chose not to disclose her partner’s identity.

In an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwu on the WithChude podcast, the 39-year-old songstress said her daughter’s father is someone very special to her.

Seyi stated that her baby daddy is a Nigerian in the entertainment industry, adding that they are not married due to a technical issue but maintain a healthy co-parenting relationship.
