Filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day recently took place in Basingstoke, England, giving fans a glimpse of Michael Mando as Scorpion in leaked set photos.
Now, a new video from the set, shared by insider MyTimeToShineHello, shows Tom Holland’s Spider-Man interacting with a female detective. The insider suggested this character could be Yuri Watanabe.
— MyTimeToShineHello (@MyTimeToShineH) October 10, 2025In the comics, Yuri Watanabe was introduced as a captain in the NYPD, stepping in as a replacement for the late Jean DeWolff.
She sometimes teams up with Spider-Man to fight crime. Over time, her frustration with the justice system leads her to adopt a vigilante identity called Wraith. Dressed in a Spider-Man-inspired costume and using tools often borrowed from supervillains, Wraith takes a more aggressive approach to crime.
While Spider-Man doesn’t always approve of her methods, they have worked together multiple times. Watanabe has also appeared in other media, including the Marvel’s Spider-Man video game series, where she is voiced by Tara Platt.
The production of Brand New Day has moved across several locations. Filming at Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey took place on August 7, followed by extended shoots in Glasgow until August 18 for a commercial.
Soundstage work occurred at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire through September. During this time, Ruffalo mentioned he was “still waiting to hear” about his role and had not yet seen a script.
On September 19, Holland suffered a mild concussion while performing a stunt at Pinewood, pausing production until September 29. The delay did not affect the film’s release date. Around that time, it was revealed that Marvin Jones III would play Lonnie Lincoln, also known as Tombstone, a character he previously voiced in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). Filming then continued in Basingstoke in early October, with Holland and Mando on set alongside stunt doubles.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now scheduled for release in the United States on July 31, 2026, after being pushed back a week to avoid competing with The Odyssey for IMAX screens. The film is part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With these new leaks hinting at Watanabe’s appearance, fans are speculating how the character will fit into the story. Her vigilante alter ego, Wraith, could add an exciting dynamic to Holland’s Spider-Man.
