Netflix has added a new comedy that fans are calling the funniest movie in the last five years. Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain is now available to stream in the UK, after first being released in 2023 on the US service Peacock. The film premiered on Netflix on October 11.

The movie is the first feature-length project from the comedy group Please Don’t Destroy, which includes Saturday Night Live cast members Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall. The film has quickly caught the attention of viewers for its humor and unique style.

Critics have had mixed opinions. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 42% rating based on 31 reviews, with an average score of 5.6 out of 10.

The site notes, “Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain has its share of funny moments, but they aren’t enough to fill a full-length feature.” Metacritic gave it a score of 49 out of 100 from 13 critics, indicating “mixed or average” reviews.

Some reviewers pointed out that the movie suffers from the typical problem of sketch comedians making a feature-length film. Brian Tallerico at RogerEbert.com wrote that “the runtime feels like a lot for a few jokes,” while Dan Kois of Slate said the movie “made me laugh so hard I missed a number of jokes.”

Fans, however, have had a very different reaction. Many are raving about the film online. One viewer wrote, “If you’re after a hilarious movie to watch this weekend, check out ‘Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain.’”

Another fan shared, “It’s well over a decade since a film made me laugh so hard that I cried and couldn’t get a breath in. 10/10 this one made our night.” Social media users have been debating the critics’ response too.

One fan commented, “Watched comedy ‘Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain’ over the weekend… what a Rotten Tomatoes divide!!”

Another added, “I didn’t know anything about this movie going into it, have never heard of any of the actors/writers (besides Conan), haven’t watched SNL since the 90s, was dead sober while watching, and I found it to be absolutely hysterical. Loved it!”

Even with mixed critical reviews, the comedy seems to have struck a chord with viewers who are praising its laughs and originality.
