A new report from Moore’s Law Is Dead has fans excited about the next Xbox. According to the report, Microsoft’s upcoming console will feature the AMD Magnus APU, which could be the largest APU ever used in a gaming system.

This could make the next Xbox more powerful than the upcoming PlayStation 6.

The report also suggests the console might be aimed at PC gamers. While the PS6 may handle games at 4K 120FPS, the new Xbox could push 4K 144FPS, making it better for high-refresh monitors.

“It should be stronger than the PS6, but at the same time, it will also be more expensive because of this larger size and its use of bridge dies and likely a larger RAM capacity compared to the PS6, at least if it wants to work well as a PC console hybrid,” the report noted.

This boost in power could affect the price. Moore’s Law Is Dead speculates the next Xbox could cost over $1,000, though it would still be cheaper than a high-end gaming PC. The console is expected to offer strong performance while being mass-produced, potentially giving PC enthusiasts a new option without building their own rig.

There had been rumors that Xbox might step back from making consoles, but the report, along with recent comments from Microsoft, dismisses that idea. The new system looks set to continue the console race and compete directly with PCs in terms of power.

A powerful Xbox that can rival high-end PCs sounds exciting, though the price could be a hurdle for many gamers. It’ll be interesting to see if Microsoft balances performance with affordability.
