Real Madrid are facing an anxious wait over the fitness of defender Dean Huijsen, who is battling to recover in time for El Clásico after picking up a calf injury earlier this month.

Dean Huijsen was injured during the match against Villarreal on October 4, after playing almost every minute of the season. What began as a muscle overload developed into a small tear in his left soleus, forcing him to stop completely.

Although the injury was initially described as minor, Real Madrid’s medical team have been cautious with his recovery. Huijsen left the Spanish national team camp and began treatment at Valdebebas, where he has been training individually and undergoing physiotherapy.

During the recent break, the 19-year-old spent a few days in Málaga, where he was seen attending the Málaga vs Deportivo game before returning to Madrid to continue his rehabilitation.

Club sources say the situation is “cautious rather than optimistic.” Calf injuries are tricky, and while Huijsen’s progress has been encouraging, the staff are reluctant to take any risks that could lead to a relapse.

He has already been ruled out of the upcoming game against Getafe. His chances of featuring in El Clásico or against Juventus remain uncertain, with his return depending on how well his leg responds in the coming days.

If he doesn’t make it, Xabi Alonso is expected to rely on Asencio to partner Militão in defence, with Alaba seen as the next option.
