As RESISTANCE celebrates its 10th anniversary and embarks on a sprawling world tour, we caught up with the virtuosic producer to discuss how it has redefined the underground scene over the last decade.

Few brands have left a legacy on dance music quite like Ultra, whose RESISTANCE brand has reshaped what underground dance music means on an international scale.

A decade since its inception, RESISTANCE stands as a global powerhouse of house and techno, continually shaping the sound of the underground’s future by bringing emerging artists into the world’s spotlight.

To mark its 10th birthday, the brand is embarking on an ambitious five-month world tour spanning Ibiza, Japan, London, Warsaw, Miami, Buenos Aires and more. Some of the scene’s most acclaimed electronic acts will perform including Adam Beyer, Amelie Lens and HI-LO, among others.

Massano: RESISTANCE really feels like a family. All the artists and crew are invested making it feel more like a community than just a residency. You notice that sense of family from the crowd to the backstage team, people fly from all over the world to be a part of RESISTANCE.

EDM.com: Do you think RESISTANCE has changed the way global audiences engage with underground electronic music? And how?

Massano: Yeah, 100%. RESISTANCE makes the underground feel accessible. It feels like a bridge for mainstream fans to step into more underground sounds to get a taste of something different.

EDM.com: Why do you think RESISTANCE’s residencies in places like Miami and Ibiza have become so important for underground EDM culture?

Massano: Miami and Ibiza are real hubs of dance music. People from all over the world travel there to experience the club and festival experiences they have to offer. For a lot of people, RESISTANCE might be their first real taste of deeper underground sounds. I think that’s why these residencies are so important, because they help shape tastes and open doors for new audiences. People come to the Ibiza and Miami shows curious and leave converted.

EDM.com: Looking ahead, how do you see RESISTANCE continuing to shape the underground scene in the next decade?

Massano: RESISTANCE helps to keep the underground scene connected internationally. It helps to give artists opportunities to be a part of a bigger community, whilst performing at iconic clubs and stages around the world. RESISTANCE helped me break through in the beginning and continue to help me to be part of something special, and I think we will see a lot more talent born that way through the work RESISTANCE is doing.
