The new anime movie Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is continuing to make waves in theaters, breaking major records in the United States.

After being in U.S. cinemas for just a month, the film has become the highest-grossing international movie ever in America, according to Global Box Office.

Box Office Mojo reports that the movie has earned $128,637,106 at the U.S. box office so far, and tickets are still being sold for upcoming screenings.

With this milestone, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has surpassed some legendary films, including Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which made $128,530,421 in the U.S. when it was released. Lee’s film is widely acclaimed, holding a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes and winning the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film in 2001.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle (Japanese: 劇場版「鬼滅の刃」無限城編, Hepburn: Gekijō-ban Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Jō-hen) is a Japanese animated dark fantasy action film.

It is based on the “Infinity Castle” arc of Koyoharu Gotouge’s 2016–2020 Demon Slayer manga. The movie is a direct continuation of the anime series’ fourth season and follows previous films, including Mugen Train (2020), To the Swordsmith Village (2023), and To the Hashira Training (2024). The film is directed by Haruo Sotozaki, produced by Ufotable, and written by the studio’s staff.

Unlike the previous Swordsmith Village and Hashira Training films, which were compilations of anime episodes, Infinity Castle is a full-length feature. Its story is large and dramatic enough to require a movie format, similar to Mugen Train. This film is also the first part of a trilogy announced in June 2024, right after the fourth season finale aired.

Officially titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns, it premiered in Japan on July 18, through Aniplex and Toho. Crunchyroll, in partnership with Sony Pictures Releasing, brought it to select Asian countries in August, with a wider international release following in September.

The film has broken multiple box office records, grossing $648 million worldwide. It is now the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time, the highest-grossing international movie in the U.S., and the fifth-highest-grossing film globally in 2025.

Critics have generally praised the film for its exciting action scenes, stunning visuals, and engaging story, although some noted that the pacing could have been smoother.
