Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has declared that she loves Wizkid but feels her contribution to the global hit “Essence” needs proper acknowledgment.
Naija News reports that she shared the message on her Instagram story, pointing out that while the song has impacted millions, her role as a songwriter should not be overlooked.
“Essence,” released in 2020 by Wizkid featuring Tems, became a worldwide anthem and one of the biggest African songs to enter international charts.
The songstress clarified that her message was not aimed at Wizkid, whom she continues to admire, but at a portion of his fanbase that sometimes ignore her contributions.
She wrote: “They keep saying Essence changed lives true, but let’s not forget who penned it. Love Wiz, but his fans be moving mad sometimes.”
