Out now via his own Ophelia label, the new single will appear on Seven Lions’ long-awaited sophomore album “Asleep In The Garden Of Infernal Stars.”
After years of flirting with every conceivable tempo between melodic dubstep and trance, Seven Lions has released his first-ever drum & bass track, “So Far Away.”
Featuring Swedish singer-songwriter Lilly Ahlberg, the new single finds the influential producer playing in the 174 BPM sandbox, and he’s brought his signature melodic sensibilities along for the ride. Ahlberg’s vocals glide over frenetic drums and Seven Lions’ signature shimmering synths, which could soundtrack either a rave or a dramatic sunset.
The production manages to walk a tightrope between underground authenticity and mainstage accessibility while maintaining the anthemic, unmistakable Seven Lions touch where everything feels cinematic and slightly heartbreaking. The same goes for Ahlberg, whose tortured lyrics wrestle with the anguish of missing someone who’s already gone, asking questions to the sky that won’t get answered and mourning an escape she can’t undo.
Whether “So Far Away” signals a full genre exploration or a one-off experiment remains to be seen, but we’ll find out soon. The new single follows “By the Light of the Moon,” on which he reunited with Kerli to produce a vintage dubstep anthem. Both tracks will appear on Seven Lions’ long-awaited sophomore album Asleep In The Garden Of Infernal Stars, which is due out in December.
