All eyes will be on the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt today as Rivers United and Bayelsa United renew their fierce Niger Delta rivalry in one of the standout fixtures of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 8.
The NPFL fixture, long regarded as a contest of grit, pride, and local dominance, has often produced drama and emotion. Bayelsa United have had the upper hand lately, winning the last three meetings, including a 1-0 triumph in Port Harcourt last November.
However, Rivers United head into this encounter as strong favourites. Under coach Finidi George, the Pride of Rivers are unbeaten in eight league matches and boast one of the tightest defences in the division, with no goals conceded in their last seven games across all competitions.
The Port Harcourt side have also been unstoppable at home, winning 11 consecutive league matches at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium since last season.
Bayelsa United, on the other hand, have struggled in recent weeks. They are winless in their last five matches, losing three and drawing two, and have failed to keep a clean sheet during that run.
Sitting 14th on the log with eight points, they will be desperate to halt their slide and rediscover early-season form.
