Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson, has asserted that the defection of Governor Douye Diri to the All Progressives Congress (APC)  was unwarranted and politically misplaced.

Naija News reports that Governor Diri resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday.

Diri, who announced the defection alongside 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly at the exco chamber in the Bayelsa State Government House, did not state the political party they will be joining.

According to a Facebook post by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alabrah, the governor resigned from the PDP with the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, along with all the PDP members in the state legislature.

Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly, Dickson said Governor Diri had informed him several times about his plan to leave the PDP, but he saw no justification for it.

According to him, there was no reason for a second-term governor like Diri to join the APC.

Diri Dikson pledged to remain with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

He said, “Everyone is rushing to the ruling party; you don’t even know what is pushing them or what they are pursuing.

“The governor consulted me several times, and I was not convinced because I didn’t see any compelling reason for a second-term governor to defect.”
